If you're looking for the finest in ground swimming pool for your backyard then there are considerations to be made.
Beyond your particular backyard requirements such as access, topography and other existing conditions, the swimming pool design will be very important.
When it comes to swimming pool designs, not all pool designers are created equal. Same goes for swimming pool companies. If you're looking for a luxury type swimming pool then you need a swimming pool builder that is up to the task and can help to create a backyard entertainment center for your needs.

It's fine if you're looking for a simple pool to work with a pool designer of less experience but if you're looking for a high end swimming pool then you probably should be working with someone that is very experienced in that particular type of swimming pool construction.

Many times a high end swimming pool will feature several waterfalls. Not necessarily rock waterfalls with the pool but water cascades, sheer descents, water falls from raised areas around the pool which are designed for the pool. Masonry work and concrete for swimming pools is an important part of creating a fantastic backyard swimming pool project. Concrete decking around the pool can be done from standard gray concrete but usually on high end pools you will find many with patterned and textured concrete decks, stamped concrete, colored concrete, sometimes colored border bands and more. Often there will be areas of one kind of concrete finish and other areas may use a second finish. You can get very clever with the design on high end pools.
People that want a high end swimming pool need to be working with an experienced professional that can deliver their dream. It's a large investment when you're talking about all this kind of work. It also takes great care to get it right and the best way to get it done right is to work with someone that knows how to get it done for you.

There is usually quite abit of detail involved when building luxurious inground swimming pools and you need to be working with someone that will really take care of your project. It's a joy to own such a swimming pool design and it can also be a smooth process along the way....from creating your luxury backyard entertainment center all the way to the completion, owning and operating everything. Rock Pools with Grottos and Caves

One of the most popular styles of swimming pools today is one that is accented with rockwork such as rock boulders and rock waterfalls around the pool.
Custom rock pools can be very elaborate and most people that like rock pools wish they had the budget to include it ALL......ALL the bells and whistles of rock accents for the most fantastic rock swimming pool creation. It can get quite expensive but so worth it if that's what you're heart desires and your budget allows.

We're talking about truly creating a backyard swimming pool that will have people talking. An unforgettable experience awaits those that have the pleasure of enjoying a very high end custom swimming pool with lots of rock and waterfalls.

Many times a rock pool will have a beach entry rather than the standard swimming pool steps. Beach entries to the pool are very cool because you can just walk right in, like walking into the ocean or a lake. After a short distance, most beach entry pools roll off into a couple of standard swimming pool steps. It's nice because you get the look of the beach entry swimming pool design but it doesn't take up all the room which is normally required with such design of pool.

High end swimming pools featuring extreme rock creations can have fantastic caves carved into the rock. Depending only upon your budget, get as carried away as you want to. Most people stay with a smaller, more intimate cave styled and carved into their swimming pool somewhere tucked into the waterfalls. It's a nice place to swim into and then walk around or sit on a bench while your secluded under the running waterfalls. There's usually a pillar or colomn which is built into the pool and supports the cave and gives it the real feeling of being a true cave in the pool. It is absolutely just like being in a natural rock cave like you might find in some tropical paradise somewhere in the world.....only better....it can be in YOUR yard, every day of the year, 365 days.
Some clever rock creators even do some fancing carving into the cave and the colomn which gives it the feel of being ancient. Sometimes a totem pole design can be used or something else of interest to you.

Rock waterfalls with grottos are a very popular option for those loving the lagoon style swimming pool look. A grotto gives just enough room under the waterfalls for a nice bench to be installed where you can sit, secluded, under the waterfalls in the pool. What fun!

You can get the tropical look complete with rock trimming around the pool, nice rock waterfalls and a grotto from many quality swimming pool companies.
Rock pools are different than standard swimming pools though and not all companies are created equal, especially when it comes to getting a rock pool built. If you're looking for a luxury rock swimming pool then you're looking for something to be created and built in your backyard. It requires artistry. It requires attention and care to get it just right.
From the planning and swimming pool design of a rock swimming pool all the way through the construction process to getting it all running, it's best to work with professional rock swimming pool builder for this type of work. You don't need someone to practice, just remember the old saying, price hurts once and quality hurts forever.
Don't look for the lowest price here, you might end up with an eyesore. Get it right from the start and work with someone that can help you from beginning to end. Be sure they've done it before and you'll have the best chance of getting the look you want.
The sounds of running waterfalls around swimming pools in Southern California are created by Waterworld Industries. If you're in the market for a magnificent rock pool creation, visit them at PoolsByWaterworld.com

Thinking About a Swimming Pool?

Thinking About a Swimming Pool?
Some things to consider.

Backyard swimming pools have enjoyed a steady rise in popularity as a great way to cool off and relax in a private setting. A swimming pool can be a great focus for family, friends and entertaining. As great as owning a swimming pool can be there are things to consider if you’re thinking of “taking the plunge” and getting one installed for your home.

What kind of pool do you want?

You will need to decide if you want an above ground or an in-ground pool. Both have advantages and special considerations. Usually the main factor in this decision is cost. A perfectly fine above ground pool can be installed for under $1500 while an in-ground pool will cost at least 8 times as much depending on size and location.
Appearance can be another factor. Generally speaking an in-ground pool is more attractive to most people than an above ground pool. Conversely, above ground pools are far more attractive than in years past. The look of fake wood slats and such is pretty much a thing of the past. Liner choices too are much wider and more attractive for an above ground pool than they used to be. Generally speaking, an above ground pool will cost less to operate. Because they hold less water they use smaller pumps and are a little easier on chemicals. Just for yucks consider an in-ground pool has a lifetime of up to forty years. The average above ground pool is in operation for about five years.

I want an in-ground pool, how about that?

In addition to the factors above an in-ground pool allows far more flexibility in design and options. Your budget is really the only limit on what you can do with an in-ground pool design. Negative edges, waterfalls, natural rock formations, swim in bars, attached spas, you name it and with enough coin of the realm you can have it. Even standard designs and forms can yield a very attractive backyard feature at a relatively reasonable price.

I’ve decided an above ground pool is the way to go.

Above ground pools have come a long way. Much improved wall designs and liners make them much less the eyesore that kept prospective buyers away. Add on decking, whether prefab or custom built, can make the above ground pool a very attractive focus for summer fun and for considerably less money. Pool accessory manufacturers have gotten the message and offer many products for above ground pools that used to be available only to in-ground owners; basket ball and volley ball games, solar blanket reels and even pool slides!

The nitty gritty

Installing a pool also has some serious considerations, safety and liability being paramount. Most non-rural areas will require a building permit and mandate safety fencing for the pool area as well as limited access to the pool. Local ordinances vary so make sure you know what’s in place in your town. Wherever you live securing a pool from unauthorized entry should be a no-brainer.

Real estate values can also be an important consideration. Realty research shows that a pool is neutral factor in a home’s value. Potential buyers are about evenly divided on whether a pool is a good or bad thing in any given property. Research on the type of pool is sketchy but remember, an above ground pool is removable an in-ground is not.

Hopefully this will help in making a decision on the pool of your dreams. I can only hit the high points so make sure you do your homework and think carefully about your decision. Take your time, do it right and you’ll have a swimming pool that will pay big dividends in fun, relaxation and entertainment.

Backyard Ideas: Convert Your Old Shed Into Your Favorite Getaway

Do you have an old shed sitting in your backyard that has seen better days? Has it past its life expectancy? Has the original paint job made way for a more prominent color called rust? Well, if you have answered yes to just one of these question, I would like to share a weekend project with you that will turn that old shed into your favorite getaway.

Don’t get rid of that eye sore of a shed that has taken over the back corner of your backyard. Stop being embarrassed every time you have guest over because no matter how nice the rest of your yard is, that rust bucket keep screaming “look at me, look at me.” Well, it is time you give visitors to your home a good reason to look. In just one weekend you will have created a backyard oasis that not even you will be able to resist. Have I convinced you to give that large piece of garden sculpture a chance at a new life? Good. Now let’s get started.

One word of advice, GET AN EARLY START! This is without a doubt a weekend project. The earlier in the day you start, the better time management you will have.

Get rid of the old and make way for the new:

The first thing on the agenda to do is clean out that old shed. Get rid of everything. You need to start with a clean slate. The best way to tackle this task is to find a new home for these items and instead of stock piling everything over to the side, go ahead and place them in their new permanent storage location. This will prevent you from having to do a lot of extra work later on. Besides, when you finish creating your new backyard getaway, you don’t want your old storage items blocking your view.

Purchase all the items you will need:

Unfortunately, this project will cost you a little money. But, to your surprise, you can accomplish your goals for under $200 depending on how many of these items you already have.

1)You are going to have to paint the shed in order to breathe new life into it. Buy a gallon of GOOD primer and a gallon of EXCELLENT exterior paint. The qualities of these two items are vital for establishing longevity of your paint job. This is not the area where you want to try a save a few bucks. If you do it right today, your shed will still look like a great backyard getaway and be just as inviting fifteen years from now.

Be careful to purchase paint that the manufacturer has created specifically for the material your shed is made from. If your shed is made from metal, you will need a paint designed to cover metal. If your shed is made from wood, you will need a paint designed to cover wood. No matter what your shed is made from, you will need to purchase exterior paint and not paint created for interior surfaces.

This is the time to choose a bright color to paint your shed. Choose a color that will draw the eye of your guest to the shed. Do not be afraid to use color. Your best option is to pick a color that will contrast against the color of your planting material.

2)Purchase 6 LARGE potted plants. These will be used to create a lush garden appeal as well as draw the eye of the visitor to your shed. Try and purchase plants that are, or will be in a very short amount of time, at least five feet tall (including the pot). They should have a look of maturity, be lush and full in nature, and very healthy. DO NOT purchase trees. They will grow to be too tall and eventually overpower the space. You want to create something that is at eye level. Some suggestions are flowering plants or palms.

3)An alternative to the 6 potted plants would be to purchase climbing roses or one of your other favorite vines. Plant them in the ground and allow them to climb up both sides of the shed. Either a store bought trellis or a trellis you have created from scratch would be ideal for achieving the desired effect.

4)Purchase decorative pots to house your large potted plants. The larger the pots the better. Keep in mind that your potted plants need room to grow so buy large, very large pots. Make sure they can withstand the changes in the outside climate. If you live in one of the northern states, your pots must be able to withstand extreme cold. If you live in one of the southern states, your pots must be able to endure heat waves.

Do not be afraid to mix and match the colors of your pots. Purchase bright colors that catch the eye from a distance and have interesting detailing on them. Do not go for plain and boring. You are trying to create the WOW factor and playing it safe is the last thing you want to do. Now is the time to take advantage of the use of color.

5)Purchase additional planting material to fill in the gaps between the large potted plants. These should be plants that are planted directly into the ground. Plant as much flowering plants as you can squeeze into this space. The idea here is to create a lush garden along both sides of the shed. Do not worry about over-crowding, as the plants out grow the space you can dig them up and plant them somewhere else in the yard. You want your garden shed getaway to have that mature look today, not two years from now.

6)Purchase flooring for your new shed. This is optional and should only be purchased if your budget allows. If your shed is already sitting on a concrete slab you could lay decorative tile down, stain it, or have it resurfaced and stamped. There are many decorative styles your concrete slab can be stamped in. However, this is a job for a professional and by far the most expensive method I have mentioned. If your shed is sitting on the ground, indoor/outdoor carpet might be a good option.

7)You are going to need a small table and two chairs. These are items you may already own. If you must purchase them, be sure to consider the inside space of your shed. There is only so much space inside a shed. You do not want to purchase a table and chair set that is too large.

8)Purchase two outdoor wall candle lanterns and one outdoor hanging candle lantern. Two will be used to light the entryway into the shed (place one on each side) and one will be used to provide lighting inside the shed. The Candle Lantern Shop has excellent choices of outdoor hanging candle lanterns that sit on its own stand.

Now it is time to convert that old shed into your backyard getaway

a) Prime the inside and outside of the shed.

b) Paint the inside and outside of the shed.

c) Lay your flooring material.

d) Place your potted plants on both sides and in the front of the shed. Begin by placing one potted plant on each side of the entryway. Be sure they are centered and attractively invites your guests in. Then place two on the left side of the shed and two on the right side of the shed.

e) Fill in the spaces between the potted plants with the additional plant material you have purchased. The more flowering plants you install the better. You are trying to create a focal point using the color from the flowering plants and contrast created by the large scale of the potted plants.

f) Install the outdoor wall candle lanterns (one on each side of the entryway) at least 12 inches from the doorway.

Placement of the wall candle lanterns is extremely important. You do not want to be more than 12 inches from the entryway because the candles are open flame and will cause a safety hazard. You do not want to be too far away from the entryway either. After all, the idea is to provide a lighting source for safe entry into the shed during the evening hours.

Be sure to carefully measure the distance from the ground to the height where you will be drilling a hole for the screws that will hold the candle lantern up on the wall. You want both wall candle lanterns to be of equal height and distance from the doorway. Repeat the measurement that was used on the left side to the right side of the entryway.

g) Add your table and chairs inside the shed

h) Place your outdoor hanging candle lantern within close proximity of your table

i) If your shed has electricity, place a nice table lamp on the table. If your shed does not have electricity, consider purchasing additional candle wall sconces or a candle chandelier from The Candle Lantern Shop and install them within the shed.

j) Add a small potted plant here and there to bring the outside in. Fill a decorative pot with a mixture of colorful flowering plants. This is a great way to add seasonal color.

k) Take a step back and look at what you have created. Add any additional accessories you may need to help create a warm and welcoming environment. Look at the shed as though it is an outside “garden room.” Because accessories will be protected from the weather, consider items from around the house that will help you transform the shed into a place that is calm, soothing, and inviting. You want this to be a place that you will enjoy having your morning coffee or reading a good book or just a place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

As you can see, converting your old shed into your favorite getaway can be accomplished within ten easy steps. So, the next time you look out your kitchen window and see that old garden shed of an eye sore, do not get dismayed. Go to your local garden center, pick up a few items, and transform that worn down shed into a refurbished oasis.

Swimming Pools : What you must know

Not to be mistaken to be the fancy of only swimming enthusiasts, swimming pools today are also a symbol of luxury, and exude style at a very decent cost. Those that have any sort of swimming pool (indoor, outdoor, infinity, etc.) are bound to feel the pride of owning a special possession that is seen at very few homes, be it any country. Hence, those of you who wish to be the center of attention in your friends’ circle, besides investing in something worthwhile, must go for a swimming pool if you have the kind of space available. And even if you don’t, you can always get different swimming pool quotations that will let you know the exact cost of swimming pools that you wish to install in your home and other factors that need to be taken care of.

The first thing that strikes the brain is that if at all one is interested in installing a swimming pool, what would be the approximate cost of it. Although this question is very vague, since that would depend on what kind of pool do you want, what would be the area, what are the kind of tiles you want to put in it, and so and so forth. However, the best person to answer this question would be your pool dealer, or a person who would be eventually installing a pool at your home. Ideally, it’s always best to take quotes from a number of sources and then zero-in on the best one, but not always is the cheapest your best choice, since he could be compromising on the quality, and you certainly wouldn’t want such a huge investment to go waste just for the sake of you wanting to save a few thousands.

The next point is regarding the usability of your pool. One must ensure that the swimming pool is always in a condition to be used, i.e., fit for all seasons. This could be done by installing internal cooling and heating systems for your pool that would lead to easy accessibility in using it in both summers as well as winters, otherwise you might as well only be using it only in summers, or winters, depending on whichever system you have installed. A balance is a must hence for these things.

The last point comes in terms of the appearance for the pools. Of late, there are plenty of fancy additions you can do to your personal pool in terms of installing glass tiles, fountains, infinity systems that make the pool seem like it’s stretching on endlessly, but all these come at a price tag, and some might be almost upto half the value of the swimming pool itself, but once you have done the hard part by investing the amount, the effect would be more than surprising to you, since all that matters sometimes, is what meets the eye.

Beat The Heat In Summer By Installing A Swimming Pool!

It’s summer again and the mercury is rising! Like most people, surviving summer means cooling down with a lovely long swim in a backyard pool. Unfortunately too many people don’t invest in a pool, and are forced to simply bake throughout summer, while they hear their neighbors splashing happily in their pool next door! There is no doubt about it – having a pool provides hours of fun and enjoyable, as well as a much needed respite from the heat of summer.

If you are sick of having to trudge your family down to the public swimming pool every afternoon, or plead with your neighbor to use their pool, perhaps it is time to install one of your own. Ask anyone with a pool, and they will tell you it is the best decision they made.

Choosing a pool is a big decision. Not only are they something of an investment, they are large and will change the appearance of your yard considerably. One of the obvious things to bear in mind when you choose your pool it the size of your garden, and how best to use the space. Pools come in a variety of sizes and shapes, ranging from perfectly round, oval, rectangular and kidney-shaped designs. The swimming pool shape you opt for should work well in your yard and enhance the appearance of your garden.

Other things you will need to weigh up are the benefits of an in-ground pool versus an above ground pool. As a general rule, in-ground pools tend to be more expensive, since they require a pit to be dug into the land. That said, they are typically less visually intrusive than an above ground pool because the water is ground level.

Once you have decided on the shape, and whether to go for an above or below ground pool, you need to consider decking and fencing. Wooden or aluminum decks, are standard. As a rule, aluminum tends to be more expensive than wood, and you should be aware than many wooden decks need to be weatherproofed every year.

These are just some of the things you will need to think about when choosing your new pool. Don’t be overwhelmed though. Just think of diving into cool, clear water on a hot summers day and you will be reminded of the pleasure that your very own pool can bring!

Indoor swimming pools : The true element of style

Although many of us might be swimming pool enthusiasts and might be willing to spend innumerable hours at the local health club or spa for a dip, work constraints and other responsibilities often leave us with little time to devote to ourselves for these activities. Besides being a relaxing activity, swimming is also a very healthy alternative to other workouts one might resort to in order to stay in shape. But, as I mentioned earlier, hectic work schedules and family responsibilities hardly leave any time to let one give the appropriate attention to his/her body. Hence, it is about time that one searches for an alternative wherein he/she can easily access the favourite activity without having to compromise on other things. An indoor swimming pool is the most appropriate solution for such needs.

Often misconstrued as an element that needs a very large area, swimming pools are sized completely according to your preferences. For instance, if you have an area of 100 sq. feet, there is no hard and fast rule that you can’t have one for your home. Agreed, there is a minimum space requirement, but not so much that you need to have second thoughts on considering to build an indoor one primarily on the basis of the fact that there is not much space. Coming to the design of an indoor swimming pool, there are many options available. Further, you can also innovate your own swimming pool designs and let your pool contractor know the kind of shape you want.

The most popular design in the indoor swimming pool category is an infinity pool, which is basically a disappearing edge pool, and gives the impression that the water is flowing endlessly into an unknown stream. Such kind of designs are most often seen in homes that are by the seaside, or high-rise apartments. Further, there can be as many types and shapes as you might want. But the inherent advantage of having an indoor pool is that it allows you to have the kind of recreation and workout you are expecting out of your day-to-day life. Though it might come as a heavy investment initially, one must keep in mind the fact that this is a lifetime ownership of a valuable asset to your home, that adds to both style and personal well being.

Custom Swimming Pools - An Extraordinary Swimming Pool to Suit Your Personality

The variety of options when it comes to designing a custom swimming pool to suit your home is endless. From standard corridor and L-shaped lap pools to infinity pools, multi-tiered pools or even pools carved in the outline of your favorite cartoon character - your only limitation is your imagination.

Of course, getting yourself into debt over a luxury item like an in ground pool is just craziness. If you're likely to put yourself into financial straits to meet your glamorous expectations, it's the time either to hold out until you're in the right position to afford it, or to tone down on your expectations. Are you liquid enough for a pricey pre-shaped metal or fiberglass custom swimming pool design, or are you going to go the simple concrete route? Ultimately, settling for a collapsible rubber pool in the meantime might be the most sensible option.

But if the bug's really in you, you'll be happy to know that there's little you can do to top the jaw-dropping effect of a color-lit inground design replete with fountains and other water features, and such things won't just give you bragging rights, they could be a serious investment in the long-term value of your home. A custom swimming pool adds character and interest to your recreational area, but be careful when designing the area that surrounds the pool - this is social space that will be the locus of pool parties and late-night, starlit romantic chats. Think about how people will want to arrange themselves in such a setting, and work accordingly to provide places for them to laze, sit and play backgammon. Remember also that the capacity of your pool, if you want to hold large pool parties or other such events, should be sufficient for seven people to move around without impeding each other - as seven in the number of people that, studies show, will be in the pool at any given time during a pool party.

Still, trying to be a party magnet with an , without thinking about what will make you happy in a space is really just a sure path to ultimate dissatisfaction. Pick a design that you feel represents you, and your interests. Do you like being in lush natural surroundings, or enjoying the aesthetic and intellectual appeal of minimalist postmodern architecture features around your swim area? Sharp lines or curves? Gazebos or thatch huts? What color will be easiest on your eyes when you're swimming underwater? Do you like chilly dips in winter, or are you going to need a heat pump to make your pool usable when the cold months hit?

Swimming Pool Safety Fences

Searching through the internet daily and thoroughly to link interesting and unfortunately I have been stumbling across recent drownings and near drownings of children through out the country.

Most US residents have been enjoying wonderful warm weather of late. As the heat is setting in, I wanted to post some water safety and drowning prevention tips provided by Citizen CPR.

Supervision

- Never leave a child alone near the water. Not even for one second!

- Designate a pool lifeguard at all social events.

- Never assume someone else is watching your child at any time.

- Never rely on flotation devices or swimming lessons to protect a child.

Limit Access to Water

- Fences must be a minimum of 4 feet and surround the water on all four sides.

- Enclose the pool or spa with a mesh type material made for this purpose.

- Or use standard fence that has no gaps greater than 4 inches wide.

- Use self latching locks. Locate them above a child's reach.

Multiple Barriers

- Barriers are supplements, not substitutes, to supervision.

- A barrier is only effective if properly installed, maintained and operated.

- Install separate locks at least 5 feet above the floor on all doors leading to the water.

- All doors and windows from the house to the pool should be protected with an alarm.

Additional Water Safety Tips

- Do not leave your child alone in the tub.

- Remove stairs from above ground pools.

- Wear life jackets

- Sign up for a CPR class today!

Usually the local "Y" has CPR classes.
Fencing for swimming pools is available in many choices today:
safety fencing for kids
iron fencing around the pool
child proof swimming pool gate
child proof swimming pool fencing can be vinyl, iron or wood
swimming pool alarms can help too

avoid disaster, install proper child safety fencing and gates around and at your swimming pool. It only takes one accident, one little moment and tragedy will be thereafter. Child safe your swimming pool and be sure your friends with kids take steps to keep swimming pools child safe.

Swimming Pool Heaters (Do You Need One?)

Swimming pool heaters can extend the swimming season by two months in both directions.
Learn to understand pool heaters and which type (solar, gas, or electric) will best suit your pool.
Depending on the type of swimming pool you have, the heater should be selected to be suitable for the pool.
Swimming pool heaters for in ground swimming pools are usually natural gas or propane powered. Electrical heaters are almost never used for inground swimming pools as they are too expensive and inefficient to produce enough ongoing heat for the swimming pool.
Swimming pool heaters which are electric based and efficient enough to produce heat for the swimming pool would be a heatpump. Heatpumps for swimming pools are very efficient for heating a pool. They heat slow though so they're not great for heating a spa. Nothing beats a natural gas swimming pool heater for heating a home swimming pool. Be sure to get the bigger sized BTU's on your swimming pool heater, it may cost a little more from the start but it will heat faster and therefore cost less to operate as it will have reduced run time. Get warm swimming pool water with a swimming pool heater.

Cover the swimming pool with a solar blanket to prevent heat from escaping when you're not using the pool. Always completely remove a solar blanket before swimming in the pool.

Create A Spectacular Swimming Pool

Pools have once again become the centerpieces of dream homes.
An amazing array of materials and design ideas are available.
You can create spectacular swimming pools in your backyard that offer much more than just a cool dip on a hot day. Today's pools are built into the design of the home and yard. Whether it be a simple playpool or spectacular lagoon pool with waterfalls and more, today's pools can add tremendously to your property's appearance and value. Therapy spas can also be part of the pool architecture, nothing like a relaxing soak at the end of the day!
Swimming pools are increasingly being designed where parents can watch kids playing in the pool from a quieter distance, or where evening entertainment is enjoyed with night lighting, waterfalls, and relaxing music. Getting the best information will help you to make a better buying decision, so you can choose from the many swimming pool options available today with greater confidence.
Designing Your New Pool
Shaped swimming pools make for interesting placements of waterslides, boulders, terraced waterfalls, and garden features such as trees and flowers. If you want to boost your property value, go for the higher end in swimming pool design. There's a reason such pools are the centerpieces of luxury homes.

Ask yourself - what will you primarily use it for? Do you want to swim laps, play volleyball or water polo, or just float with a drink and get some sun? These questions will determine the shape & dimensions that you need. Of course, the bigger the pool the more it will cost - both to build initially and to operate.
Size & Shape: The standard size pool is15'x30'. It can be rectangular, freeform, or any other style desired. Standard depth is usually 3'-5' or 3'-6'. For a playpool, depth is usually 3'-5'-4', this makes the deepest area in the middle of the pool, good for family games, etc.The design of the pool should relate to the design of the home. Consider the view you will have of the proposed pool design from each room that opens on to the pool. If you intend to install a spa, waterfall, raised beam, etc., that feature should be positioned for maximum impact from as many parts of the home as possible.
Location:
You probably already have an idea as to where you want the pool to be located in your yard. Ideally, your location will allow easy access to the shallow part of the pool from your patio area. The pool should be located a minimum of 5' from the house or otherstructures. While you can locate it closer with specialengineering (in some areas), it is advisable to keep it back the minimum of 5'. Having located the pool area, now comes the time to work out the design details.
Steps & Benches
Shallow end steps are being replaced frequently with a "reef"entry. It has a normal step and then an extended ledge whichallows for lounging on the "reef" in a shallow amount of water. This is nice for families with children as it provides a built in area for kids to play which is shallow. Adults like the reef stepfor sun bathing in the pool. You can also add an umbrella sleeveto be built in, then you can have a palapa umbrella or just a regular patio table umbrella can be easily added to your reef step whenever you like to have a little shade in that area.
Some sort of bench should be built into the pool at the deeper area. It will provide an exit from the deeper water and also it's a nice place to sit and relax in the pool.
Raised Areas & Waterfeatures
Standard pools are built with everything at one level. The pool and spa (if included) will all be at the same level. Add interest and flair to your pool by raising the spa. Even a 6" step up to thespa will create multi level dimensions and it will also create a waterfall effect from the spa to the pool.
Even if you aren't building a spa, you can raise an area of the pool. In the raised area you can have a waterfeature, sprayheads or water cascades. Waterfeatures are beautiful to look at, the sound of running water is a bonus too. Sometimes you might put a bench under the waterfeature so you can sit on the bench and have the water falling on your head.....who doesn't like to get under a waterfall from time to time?
More elaborate designs, like lagoon pools for example, might have a fantastic waterfall/grotto area. This will provided a secluded little area built right in the pool. Here you can sit on a bench which is built into the pool under the waterfall. When the water's running you will feel like you're in your own little tropical lagoon cave.
General Construction
Whether simple or sensationally designed swimming pools, they all will have some common features, after all, a pool is a pool, right? We believe this to be fundamentally true.
Every pool should be built with premium equipment and construction materials.
No "shortcuts" allowed. There are many of these so called shortcuts that builders use to cut their pool building costs. We at PoolsByWaterworld.com don't believe in this, we build everypool with all dedicated lines for maximum running efficiency and performance.
It costs a few more dollars for us to do what we do, however, a pool is an expensive item. With this in mind, our most simple pools are built the same way as our most expensive pools. You can be sure that everything will be the best, we wouldn't want to build it any other way. Shortcuts in construction can make your pool ownership miserable, don't let this happen to you.
Equipment
Be sure to consider your equipment location during your design process.
Pool equipment is usually required to be 10' away from the waterline of the pool. If it is less than 10' a barrier wall will be required.
Usually the equipment will also need to be at least 5' from your property lines.....in some areas it will need to be more than 5'away. A few areas require the equipment to have a barrier sound wall, most don't require this but if you live in an area that does you will want to plan for it in your pool budget.
Decking
The decking is the walkway around the pool area. The pool designis complemented by the pool decking. Rather than spacing the decking evenly around the pool area, try creating narrower areas for walkways and then blending these walkways into larger, wider areas for patio tables, lounge chairs and the like.
It's a good idea to have enough decking for a patio table and chairs or lounges. You can also build in a firepit or add a prefabricated firepit or tiki torches to enhance the area by night.
Decking can be made from concrete in any number of finishes and colors. It is also popular to have the decking made by pavingstones or stamped concrete. Paving stones are usually the least expensive option.
Whatever material is proposed for your decking, you'll want it to complement the rest of your pool design and always be sure to use a non-slip finish.
Coping/Tile/Interior Finishes
Your pool design will become unique with your choice of coping, tile and interior pool finish. The standard pool coping is white safety grip coping. It provides a nice clean look and a smooth rounded edge which is easy to grip while in the pool. Many other coping styles are available, from colored coping, real flagstone or quartz rock, manufactured granite look or stone look. You'll need to make your coping selection based on personal preference and your pool budget.

Interior finish is most commonly of trinity white marbelite pool plaster. Other interior finishes that are popular is 3m Quartziteor Pebble surface pools.

Steps to Planning Swimming Pool Installation & Design

f you are trying to decide on what to do with your back yard, and can see the grandeur of a swimming pool, then you want to begin with a plan. The construction of a swimming pool is simple to install, with specifics that help you to get the basics of the pool planned out with the most efficient results for enjoyment of a home pool. Following are the steps to consider when considering swimming pool installation.

1. Design. You always want to ask yourself what design you want first. This is determined by what you will be using the pool for as well as what you find most enjoyable. For instance, a lap pool that is rectangular in shape may be better for your needs. Contrasted against this is a lagoon shape, better for games and enjoyment of a good soak in your pool.

2. Around the pool. You don't just want to consider the basic design of your swimming pool, but also want to think about what is going to go around the area. For instance, if you want trees, plants or a place to catch the sunshine after taking a dive in the waters, then you should factor this into the overall look of your back yard. This helps you to enjoy the waters even more, as well as the environment surrounding it.

3. Safety features. Swimming pools always come with enjoyment first. However, you want to make sure you comply with standards so children in your neighborhood don't get injured or drown in your private pool. Before you build, make sure you have a building permit. This should be combined with a surveyor checking the area to make sure there are fences and gated in areas so children can't get hurt in your pool.

4. Plumbing system. Swimming pools are naturally designed with a built in plumbing system. However, you want to make sure that this is built with the right standards for plumbing so higher pressures doesn't cause problems. This is also combined with pumps and filter systems that may work more effectively in keeping your pool clean.

5. Interior design. While most pool owners are first concerned about the design of the exterior, you also want to consider the interior options for under the water as well. If you want a deep end and shallow end, for instance, then planning this out as a part of the entire look is essential. Considering slopes, as opposed to a straight layer of cement for the pool makes a difference in the ability to enjoy specific water activities with your pool.

6. Maintenance. If you don't want to clean debris out of your swimming pool every morning with a fish net, then you can request built in maintenance and self - cleaning tools. There are several ways to do this, ranging from jets to pumps or suction filtration systems. Make sure you find the one that fits your needs.

7. Materials. While the foundation of a swimming pool is always built with strong layers of cement, it does not have to keep this specific look with it. Adding in tiles, pavers, stone and other areas in the inside of the pool, as well as the outside, helps with the overall look and enjoyment of the pool. Planning everything out from the material type to colors helps with more comfort added into your pool.

With these difference concepts, is the ability for you to enjoy your pool even more. Planning the design and basics first, and making sure that you get an overall understanding of how to lay out the pool in your back yard allows you to enjoy it even more for years to come. The result is the ability to have everything taken care of, from the ability to enjoy water activities to the environment and design and to the complete maintenance that is in the build of your pool.
