Pool Alarms Are the Ultimate Pool Protector

s parents, there is nothing we wouldn't do to protect our children from harm. We make sure they wear their car seats, we teach them not to walk out into oncoming traffic and we tell them not to talk to strangers. Some dangers however, we don't even see coming...

Swimming pools are a lot of fun for children and adults to play in. In the summer, my kids never seem to want to leave the pool, they spend hours out there playing and having fun. Even though the older children are experienced swimmers the younger children are only beginners and I constantly worried about them swimming alone even when I was supervising their play. I would constantly catch them trying to sneak out the house undetected and attempt to go swimming by themselves, even though they knew the pool was off limits without an adult to supervise.

A swimming pool alarm helps by alerting you that someone or something has gone into the swimming pool. Swimming pool alarms are great for swimming pool safety.

Even though I was positive that they wouldn't actually go into the pool without me there, I decided to make sure by installing an electromagnetic monitoring system into the pool. I am not an expert at electronics but thankfully, the product was simple to hook up. I just choose a spot to place the lightweight electromagnetic system onto the pool deck and installed the remote receiver in my home. I was also glad that the unit was portable making it easy to move in case I needed to find a more stable location on the pool deck for it.

A few weeks went by without incident until the night the oldest kids went to a friend's house to spend the night. After dark, I was upstairs getting ready for bed when I suddenly heard a loud pulsating alarm coming from the remote receiver in my home.

I ran outside and found my youngest son, Mike struggling to get his head out of the water. I jumped in and pulled him out. He explained to me that he had dropped his ball in the water and when he leaned in to get it out, he overbalanced and fell in. Being only 6 years of age, Mike was unable to get out of the deep water without assistance. If he had called for help, would I have heard him from the second floor? Would his older brother have been able to run upstairs and get to me in time? I don't even like to think about what would have happened if the alarm system hadn't of been installed.

After doing some research on drowning accidents, I was even more relived that I had installed Pool alarm. Every year, over 900 children younger than age 14, die from drowning accidents and it is a common cause of accidental death in children. Pets can also drown when they fall into an unsupervised pool and a pool protector will detect a fall from an animal. The remote receiver can even function up to 200 feet away from the pool.

From my experience, I believe that an electromagnetic pool system is one of the best ways to be sure children do not enter a pool unsupervised. This device provides valuable protection for any location where swimming pools are accessible to children. Parents can use this to be sure their children are safe, or that a neighbors child or pet doesn't wander into their pool and become injured. Businesses such as day cares and youth centers can also use an electromagnetic monitoring system to ensure accidents do not occur.

Tim Frazier is an avid supporter of personal preparedness. For more information on the Pool alarm, please visit and you will also find other high quality child safety items along with stun guns, pepper spray, and mace.

Luxury Swimming Pools

When you see luxury swimming pools, you want to build one for yourself. But too often homeowners believe that ‘luxury’ automatically means expensive – this is not necessarily the case. While there are some features of luxury swimming pools that are a little pricey, there are plenty of things you can do for your pool that will make it a luxurious setting for you and your family.

When most people think of luxury swimming pools, they think of several things: pools that include saunas and hot tubs, pools that are indoors, or maybe pools that include special decorative touches. All of these extras allow the pool experience to be more relaxing and inviting, while also giving you a bit more than the traditional swimming time might provide. To add these features to your present pool situation, you don’t have to spend a lot of money.

Luxury Swimming Pools

Luxury swimming pools that include spas and hot tubs are easy to replicate in your own home. By simply adding a hot tub to the backyard, you can create that luxury experience – and without having to spend a lot of money to do so. To add a spa, you should talk with the dealers at a hot tub showroom as they can often combine a sauna with a hot tub in order to save you money as well as create a finished look.

Indoor pools are certainly some of the most talked about luxury swimming pools. But if you don’t have the room or the money to create this situation, you may want to spend some time building an outer structure to your current pool setting. By simply building a wooden deck with high walls around the pool, you can have complete privacy and quiet. In addition, you can create a separate eating and entertaining area that will be sealed off from the world.

But it’s the decorations that really make luxury swimming pools stand out. By adding simple ceramic tiles or choosing a new design for the fiberglass interior of your pool, you can allow the pool to become a fantasy experience. Add in some underwater lighting and you can even create a magical nighttime experience.

Swimming Pool Installation Facts

There are, today, more and more choices available to consumers who want a swimming pool. Anything from indoor and outdoor lap pools to spas, seasonal and more permanent above ground options to the traditional in-ground installation. While you can purchase swimming pools at a variety of places from your local discount and home store to retailers who specialize in swimming pools, one of the first places to start if you're planning a significant swimming pool project is your local building department. They can tell you what regulations and restrictions there are concerning swimming pools. Most communities require fencing and other safety measures to protect small children from accidentally wandering into your swimming pool. There also may be issues concerning the site where you're planning on installing your swimming pool, from soil condition to underground wiring and pipes.

Anything much above the kind of swimming pool you can buy at your discount or home store, and you'll be doing yourself a tremendous favor by seeking out a reputable local swimming pool dealer. Your swimming pool supplier usually can provide you with a wide variety of options from large above ground options with decking and other features to a simple lap pool to a magical in-ground paradise with fountains and waterfalls and a floating bar. As a rule of thumb a very basic in ground swimming pool or quality lap pool will start at around $20,000 and go rapidly up from there. If you want a pool mostly for the ability to take that morning or after work plunge and swim laps for fitness, a lap pool is for you.

Swimming Pool Investment

If you want that American dream backyard swimming pool, be prepared to spend a significant amount of money.
The simple cement rectangle with a diving board at one end is nice but not when you can have more.....and so the decision must be made as to how much you want to invest in your swimming pool project.
Remember, the more spectacular your poolscape is, the higher the cost of the swimming pool but also the more likely it is to add at least some value to your home - in most areas of the country. For high end pools in Southern California all the way to the luxurious swimming pools crafted by custom swimming pool builders across the country to the Virginia, Maryland, New York and numerous other states.

It's a myth that you get your pool investment back when you sell your home, in fact, if it's unwanted a pool can actually be viewed as a liability.
Some of the investment will be recouped but it will depend on such factors as the interest and look, the ambiance that your create in your space. So make sure you include features - cabanas, outdoor entertaining areas, spas, lighting, temperature control, the easiest and best filters and other cleaning and maintenance tools, to make your pool as trouble free as possible. Not only will it be more attractive to potential future buyers, but if you're going to invest in a pool at all, why skimp on your own enjoyment - as well as that of all the new friends you'll have once your new swimming pool is open for business.

If you're going to be making a swimming pool investment then you ought to be getting the best you can. Like with most things, price hurts once and quality hurts all the time. Get something good, it might cost a few extra bucks but it will probably work out better for you in the long run.

Household items are no different when it comes to that, premium goods and services are different than the cheapos. How many times did you get a bargain only to have it quit working right the next day. Just be careful and don't go too cheap, that's usually when there's trouble. Be reasonable and hopefully you'll invest wisely and have lots of fun with your swimming pool.

Premium hot tubs are another way to have lots of fun if you don't go the whole pool avenue. Spa and hot tub dealers that ship nationwide and have some models for many different things, like couples spas, shallow hot tubs for shorter people, deep hot tubs for taller people and simple round hot tubs, family sized hot tubs and you name it. Get a high quality premium hot tub if the swimming pool idea doesn't pan out. You'll have great fun in the warm bubbling waters and if you get a good high quality portable hot tub then it will last for a long time too!

Advantages of Concrete Swimming Pools - Five Features You Might Want For Your Pool

So you have decided to have a swimming pool in your landscape. There are a lot of decisions to be made.

One of you main decisions will be deciding if you want a concrete swimming pool or vinyl liner pool.
Concrete swimming pools have some advantages over vinyl pools. It's not that vinyl pools aren't a better choice in some situations. However, gunite pools do offer a few exclusive features.

Here are the Pros of why you might choose a gunite (concrete) pool:

1. Pool shapes can be easily customized. This means that you do not have to limit your choices to the standard shapes offered by pool companies. If you are working with a professional swimming pool designer, he/she has free reign to be as creative as possible.
2. Steps are commonly placed on the interior of the pool. Visually, this allows the shape of the pool to flow, and not be broken by the steps on the exterior, intruding into the pool paving. Which also means that you gain pool decking space.
3. If you would like a waterfall incorporated into the pool and it is being placed at a higher elevation behind the pool, the back end of the pool can be built higher. This back wall, or bond beam wall, actually becomes a retaining wall on top of which the waterfall can be built. This creates a very integrated and beautiful look to your swimming pool design, especially with plantings included.
4. Actual tile is used along the inside of the pool walls near the top, right under the pool coping. I can't begin to tell you how many are available. Be sure to coordinate it with the color you choose for the pool interior and also with the pool paving material.
5. With concrete swimming pools, you can have a vanishing edge. Of course, your property must lend itself to this...but it is possible! Perched at a higher place with the land dropping off behind creates great drama.

The one main Con of a concrete pool is that it is more expensive.

Some other things to think about:

* Where do you place the pool?
* Do you want it close to the house or further away? Placing it closer is convenient for access, while a pool further away creates another place to go to on your property. It is also less visible in the winter when the pool cover is on the pool.
* What shape should you go with? Do you want a more formal or naturalistic look?
* What pool paving material should you use? There are so many to select from, but try to choose one that is cool on your feet.
* What size would be appropriate? Pools can be very small or they can be huge. Most people choose one in between.
* Should I hire a landscape designer? A landscape designer will take your entire property and design into consideration.

I hope these points on concrete swimming pools have been helpful. You can read more about both types of pools, including more detail on their Pros and Cons, and general swimming pool information at my website page below.

Spectacular Inground Swimming Pools (Creating Yours)

To create a spectacular inground swimming pool you have to think of the pool and beyond. The entire pool area should be considered when planning for a simple or spectacular swimming pool for your home or other public areas.
A swimming pool design is brought to life by everything that is around it. The best swimming pools use design ideas to further complement the entire area.
Spectacular swimming pool designs often include waterfalls or other water features. A good pool designer will enhance the basic pool shape by raising certain areas and including a water feature in the raised areas. Custom water cascades from raised areas in the pool are pleasing to look at and nearly everyone likes listening to the sound of running water. Another benefit of waterfalls is that it makes the right noise in the yard and makes your voices not carry so much to the neighbors.....and vice versa.
Most people do enjoy the sounds of the waterfalls for this very reason.....it's nice to have a general conversation in your yard without the neighborhood hearing every detail. Add a nice waterfeature or waterfall to your home swimming pool design and you'll have this little luxury.

Besides waterfalls and waterfeatures, color changing pool lights add drama and effect to swimming pools. By day the pool is crystal blue shimmering water and at night it comes to life with the pool light. Most people have seen a swimming pool at night with the light on. It is a white light in the pool as standard in many existing pools.
Add a color changing pool light and you'll have some magic in your backyard.

It's easy to create a spectacular inground swimming pool. Start with your favorite shape and then add some pizzaz by raising an area (or two) and add some water effects.
A professional swimming pool designer can always help with more details. There are MANY options available today for creating incredible swimming pools.
Spectacular swimming pools designed and built.

Vanishing Edge Swimming Pools

There is a new swimming pool building technique that's turning heads. It's called vanishing edge. Actually, this style of pool has been around for years but it is starting to gain popularity. Many of our customers are asking us about negative edge or vanishing edge swimming pools including questions about design, practicality, and if any home can have this type of pool. For the rest of the article, we will inform anyone interested in a new swimming pool about the vanishing edge style.

The style of a vanishing edge pool is unique. The essence of the structure is to make the area appear as though it is vanishing into the horizon. When the contractor builds this type of pool, there is one end which has no edges or walls. The water appears to be spilling off into the horizon which creates a beautiful look for any home. However, this type of swimming pool looks best in areas where the home or the ground level is elevated, such as homes built on a cliff, large hill, homes near oceans, or homes with open views in their backyard. The negative edge area will be overlooking the edge in your home. Water appears to spill over the side where it is captured by a ledge and recycled back into the pool through pump and filtration systems. This type of swimming pool is perfect for homes with overlooks as it doesn't take away from the natural beauty.

People are choosing infinity pools and negative edge styles because of their aesthetic beauty. And, because the vanishing edge style can only be made with gunite, your pool builder can create any shape possible. This means full customization of your pool so it will look great in your already beautiful backyard. And, even more than any other variety, the negative edge pool will look great with exotic coping materials and specialty tiles. Because the vanishing edge type of pool is more expensive than a standard or traditional gunite build, customers are typically prepared to spend the extra money on exotic stone and lighting to accentuate the beauty of the vanishing edge.

As we stated before, infinity swimming pools can be installed anywhere in any backyard. However, we feel that these pools are best suited for homes with elevations and homes with open spaced views in their backyard. Great candidates that fit this profile are homes in the woods, homes at the shore, homes in the mountains, and any home with beautiful overlooks including homes in the city. As stated before, this type of pool works best in an area where the it flows with the natural setting in your yard and your property. Location is the most important factor when you think about having a vanishing edge installed. If you are happy with your view, then a negative edge pool will work for you. If your view is of a cluttered neighbor's yard or an overgrown area, you may want to think twice about type type of swimming structure. The vanishing edge portion of your pool will become the focal point of the area where your eye will visit each time you are in your backyard. You want to make sure that the view, the angle, and the location is something that you will never tire of.

Negative edge swimming pools require a contractor who understands the pumps and technology involved and is also an expert in excavation and gunite application. A negative edge pool is one of the most expensive variety of pools you can choose to install, and if you have the money, it is one of the most beautiful and timeless investments you can ever make. When choosing the right builder for this, make sure they have experience in this medium and they will be full service meaning they understand the entire building process from excavation to completion. The last thing any homeowner wants is a beautiful pool with muddy landscaping surrounding it. Make sure your pool contractor is creative, experienced, and will leave your yard as pristine as it was before they arrived on the job site.

Waterworld Industries Inc is an inground gunite swimming pool contractor and master swimming pool builder in Southern California. We build custom inground pools, custom spas, and commercial pools as well as landscaping, patios, barbeques, waterfalls, firepits and more. Southern California Swimming Pool Builder

The first thing that strikes the brain is that if at all one is interested in installing a swimming pool, what would be the approximate cost of it. Although this question is very vague, since that would depend on what kind of pool do you want, what would be the area, what are the kind of tiles you want to put in it, and so and so forth. However, the best person to answer this question would be your pool dealer, or a person who would be eventually installing a pool at your home. Ideally, it’s always best to take quotes from a number of sources and then zero-in on the best one, but not always is the cheapest your best choice, since he could be compromising on the quality, and you certainly wouldn’t want such a huge investment to go waste just for the sake of you wanting to save a few thousands.

The next point is regarding the usability of your pool. One must ensure that the swimming pool is always in a condition to be used, i.e., fir for all seasons. This could be done by installing internal cooling and heating systems for your pool that would lead to easy accessibility in using it in both summers as well as winters, otherwise you might as well only be using it only in summers, or winters, depending on whichever system you have installed. A balance is a must hence for these things.

The last point comes in terms of the appearance for the pools. Of late, there are plenty of fancy additions you can do to your personal pool in terms of installing glass tiles, fountains, infinity systems that make the pool seem like it’s stretching on endlessly, but all these come at a price tag, and some might be almost upto half the value of the swimming pool itself, but once you have done the hard part by investing the amount, the effect would be more than surprising to you, since all that matters sometimes, is what meets the eye.

Swimming Pool Lights - Turn Your Pool Into A Night Time Paradise

One of the best ways to get more hours of use out of your pool each season is to make it as functional and fun at night as it is during the day. With a wide variety of different swimming pool lights available for pool owners to choose from, it's easy to do just that. From underwater lights to floating lanterns, there is a multitude of styles and designs of pool lights in a rainbow of colors that will allow you to turn your pool into a night time paradise.

To prepare your swimming pool for night time use, it's always a good idea to start by lighting up your pool deck. This will make it easier to navigate your way to and from your swimming pool and will also make your pool area safer for everyone. Fortunately, adding stylish and decorative lights to your pool deck doesn't have to be expensive and doesn't have to consume a lot of power. Many retailers of pool equipment and supplies offer solar deck lights that will brighten up your pool area without requiring any electricity. If your pool is fenced, you may want to consider pool lights designed to attach to deck posts or pool fencing. That way, your lights will be integrated into the overall pool setting.

Once you have arranged for your pool deck to be well lit, it's time to consider the options for the pool itself. Having swimming pool lights directly in the pool will make night swimming easier and safer, and can also transform your pool into an eye-catching wonder. Even if you have an above ground pool, there are a variety of different lights available that you can use to bring your pool to life at night. For example, there are standard above ground pool lights that simply attach to the edge of your swimming pool and will brightly illuminate your pool. Above ground pool lights can also provide mood lighting, especially if you use lights that come with color lenses. Some above ground pool lights also come with a fountain attachment to create an even more impressive effect.

While there are swimming pool lights available that are designed specifically for above ground pools, there are also many different lighting styles and options that can be used for both above ground and in-ground swimming pools. Floating swimming pool lights are a particularly popular and economical form of lighting that can be used for any type of pool. Usually powered by batteries or solar power, floating pool lights can provide your pool with an intriguing ambience as well as light. Floating lights are available in round disc designs as well as in stylish lantern designs. With an entire spectrum of colors to choose from, you can easily use floating pool lights to transform your pool into a night time spectacle.

Underwater pool lights also provide a great way to make every night time swimming experience memorable. Particularly great for parties, underwater pool lights will create dramatic, dancing patterns of colorful light on the bottom and walls of your pool so that your entire swimming pool will be awash in light and color. Some underwater pool lights also come with a floating fountain, providing color changing cascades of water as well as a colorful underwater kaleidoscope effect. Often these lights will come with several different modes and settings so you can adjust the display to suit a particular mood or atmosphere.

When looking for swimming pool lights that will transform your pool into a night time paradise it's always important to consider quality and performance so that you will get the best overall results for the best value. In order to feel confident with your purchase, it's often a good idea to go with highly respected and trusted brand names that have established a solid reputation in the marketplace. Hayward, for example, is one of the best-known and most respected manufacturers in the pool supply industry. Hayward pool lights are available in a number of different models and designs and are known for their top-notch quality. Hayward pool lights that are readily available from many pool equipment retailers include above ground pool lights, niche lights and floating LED lights.

Whether you decide to go with Hayward pool lights or lights from another trusted manufacturer, you can create some truly impressive lighting effects for your swimming pool. While bright lighting for your deck and pool will make your pool area safer and will make night swimming easier, you can also use the available lighting options to do much more. With the help of swimming pool lights that provide different colors and dramatic effects, you can easily take your pool out of the dark and transform it into a dazzling night time paradise that will be the talk of the neighborhood. http://www.intheswim.com

Choosing The Right Pool For You

When considering building a new swimming pool, there is no shortage of options. You can spend over $50,000 building your perfect backyard retreat, or $2,000 on an above ground eyesore. The important thing is to pick a pool that that is within your budget at the time you build it, and has maintenance costs that are similarly within your budget.

Types of pools

Above ground – Above ground pools are popular because of the greatly reduced costs, but are generally not very durable and can spontaneously bust, flooding your backyard with hundreds of gallons of chlorinated water. They are also generally not very attractive. On the plus side, it is harder for small children to fall into the pool as they are generally at last 3-4 feet above the ground.

Best for- low budget installations

Vinyl Pools – Inground Vinyl pools are definitely more attractive than above ground pools, but are more expensive. They are numerous liner patterns and colors, which can add a more customized look to your pool. This type of pool is traditionally rectangular, but other shapes are possible. Significant excavation is usually required, and the ground under the pool liner is generally lined with sand so the pool liner has a smooth surface on which to rest. Vinyl-specific coping (the edge of the pool) and decking (the “deck” area that surrounds the pool are used. All openings are sealed to prevent leakage and the area surrounding the pool is prepared to support the pool. Vinyl pools typically do not last as long as concrete pools and have greater maintenance costs, but are a good choice for people who are concerned with upfront costs

Best for- reasonably aesthetically pleasing installations where upfront cost is a big concern

Concrete pools (Gunnite and Shotcrete)- The best, most beautiful pools are made with sprayed concrete. One of the materials used is Shotcrete. Shotcrete is concrete conveyed through a hose and pneumatically projected at high velocity onto the pool surface. The other commonly used material is Gunnite. Gunnite is a dry cement mixture blown through a hose to the nozzle, where the water is injected immediately prior to application. Shotcrete is a wet-mix process, where as Gunnite is a dry mix process. From a homeowners perspective, either material is probably fine, though the pool building company you use will probably have a preferred material.

Concrete pools can be customized to exactly what you want. Waterfalls, natural looking rock, and other features are possible with concrete pools. Gunnite and Shotcrete pools are finished with pool plaster, which is available in a variety of colors. Diamondbrite and Pebble Tec are the two most common pool plastering materials in use, and come in dozens of possible finishes. Concrete pools are infinitely customizable and the most durable building method.

Best for- aesthetically pleasing installations where long term maintenance of the pool is a concern. Most customizable after installation (If you want to add features or change colors later).

Buying an inground swimming pool (Considerations)

There are definite considerations which must be made when you're thinking of buying a new swimming pool, especially so if you're thinking of buying an inground swimming pool or in ground ground, below the ground, in the ground, in-ground swimming pool and any which way you'd like to name it......and there are many more than these.
Many names, single item...a beautiful and refreshing body of water in your backyard for purposes of family fun, recreation and entertainment, or just to look at and enjoy.
Buying an inground swimming pool for your home will bring certain fun for family and friends. It's a dream for many and hopefully a reality for you.
There are not very many homeowners WITH swimming pools that would care to return them. Inground swimming pools are great fun for everyone, kids, adults and even most family dogs love swimming pools. Hopefully you're one of those and you don't need much convincing about how much fun it is to own a swimming pool but you'd just like to buy the best swimming pool possible. If you are trying to find the best home swimming pool then there are some important considerations you must make.

When you consider to buy an in ground swimming pool then be sure to consider everyone that will be using the pool.
If you're buying a swimming pool that is custom built in the ground, there are often many features available that will make accessibility easy for everyone in the household. When you buy an inground pool usually you work with a swimming pool designer. Be sure that you tell the swimming pool designer about any special requests you might have so they can help you to get the swimming pool design that best fits your needs as well as the available space.
Considerations are many when you're looking to get a buy an inground swimming pool and in fact, the choices are so many that it can become confusing. There are a lot of things to consider when you're thinking of buying a new inground swimming pool. Meeting with a professional swimming pool designer will help you with the process. A swimming pool designer will help you with the pool buying process and special considerations required either by you or by the yard itself.
If you are looking to buy an in ground swimming pool, the best step is to work with only professional experienced pool builders. Usually a new inground swimming pool will be quite an investment and therefore, always be sure you're working with a reliable and professional company.
You want the best quality and pricing but don't go so far as to be with the lowest possible bidder. Especially if the lowest bidder is thousands of dollars less than others. It's usually a sign of trouble and a sign that the builder might not know the cost of his own project and underbid it (only to ask you for more money later on), or even worse, when the price is too low then the company could be having financial troubles.
You know, if it sounds like too good of a deal then it probably is!
Price hurts once, quality hurts forever.....and every day you'll be looking outside at the pool. It needs to be done right, it needs to be done by someone that KNOWS what they're doing so you can end up with a swimming pool that operates the way it should and uses all the best and most efficient equipment and accessories possible. Buying a pool on price alone is a big mistake. Better to buy a pool and know you're safe and will have an experienced builder taking care of the details needed to get it right the fist time.

Work with an experienced inground swimming pool company and get yours scheduled.
Start with the designer and work out all of your details and special considerations.
An experienced professional swimming pool builder will be knowledgeable and will help you to get everything right so the process of buying a swimming pool can be a pleasant one.

Good luck and DO achieve your goal of getting a new inground swimming pool!
