Swimming Pool Heaters (Do You Need One?)

Swimming pool heaters can extend the swimming season by two months in both directions.
Learn to understand pool heaters and which type (solar, gas, or electric) will best suit your pool.
Depending on the type of swimming pool you have, the heater should be selected to be suitable for the pool.
Swimming pool heaters for in ground swimming pools are usually natural gas or propane powered. Electrical heaters are almost never used for inground swimming pools as they are too expensive and inefficient to produce enough ongoing heat for the swimming pool.
Swimming pool heaters which are electric based and efficient enough to produce heat for the swimming pool would be a heatpump. Heatpumps for swimming pools are very efficient for heating a pool. They heat slow though so they're not great for heating a spa. Nothing beats a natural gas swimming pool heater for heating a home swimming pool. Be sure to get the bigger sized BTU's on your swimming pool heater, it may cost a little more from the start but it will heat faster and therefore cost less to operate as it will have reduced run time. Get warm swimming pool water with a swimming pool heater.

Cover the swimming pool with a solar blanket to prevent heat from escaping when you're not using the pool. Always completely remove a solar blanket before swimming in the pool.
